| Faculty of Agriculture which was established in 2009/2010 academic session currently operates three Departments: Agricultural Economics and extension; Agronomy and Animal science. The establishment was premised on the possible and probable implications of food as a potent political, social and economic pivot capable of influencing not only international relations but also stability of a nation. The Faculty was driven by the major challenge of food scarcity and food insecurity, primarily because Taraba is an agrarian state.
In due course the following programs are slated to take off, based mainly on the demand of the Agro ecological/geopolitical zone.
i. Fisheries and Aquaculture
ii. Agro forestry and wild life management
iii. Home science and food technology.
iv. Agricultural engineering.
The University, in furtherance of its agricultural development programs intends to establish the following Agricultural Research Centres:
- Agricultural Research and Training Centre
- Diary and Livestock Products Research and training Centre
- Processing and post-harvest Technology Centre.

Mission Statement
To serve as faculty committed to the production of professionals that are adequately equipped with environmental, social, economic and entrepreneurship skill for communal development and to promote propagation, exchange and dissemination of knowledge for increased agricultural production.
Philosophy and Objectives of the Discipline
Production of graduates that are adequately equipped with the comprehensive theoretical knowledge and practical skills required for engaging in productive and economic agricultural production. The objectives of the programmes are:
- To produce graduates geared towards self employment;
- To produce graduates with sufficient technical, productive and entrepreneurship skills who will be involved in production, research and entrepreneurship in any aspect of agriculture and other related disciplines;
- To produce graduates that are relevant to themselves, the industry and society and who can contribute effectively to national development goals in Agriculture.
Entry Requirements into the Faculty of Agriculture.
UTME Requirement:
English, Chemistry, Biology/Agricultural Science and Physics or Mathematics.
O’ Level Entry Requirement
Minimum entry requirement: At least 5 credits including English, Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry, with at least a “pass” in physics or a credit pass in geography or economics.
Direct Entry Requirement
Passes in “A” level Biology, Chemistry and any of the following: mathematics, physics, Geography and Economics, or at least a lower credit in ND in Agricultural science from an accredited institution. In addition, minimum 100 level basic requirements are mandatory.
Bachelor of Agriculture (B.Agric.) programme:
The following courses are prescribed for the Bachelor’s Degree programme in the faculty; courses for parts 1, 2, 3, and 4 are compulsory for all registered student. In part 5, students usually specialize in the following options:
i. Agricultural economics and extension.
ii. Agronomy
iii. Animal science
The degrees in view are B. Agriculture with the above options as specializations. Furthermore the course code and number, is in line with the NUC coding system, entrenched in the BMAS.
Where 100 level – 400 level courses are indicated by AGR code while at 500 level AGY, indicate Agronomy code, ANS, for Animal science and AEE for Agricultural economics and extension.
A unit is equivalent to one hour of lecture or three hours of practical or 6 hours of field work per week throughout the semester. Semester duration is 15 weeks. While industrial training course lasts for 2 semesters.
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS OF THE FACULTY
In order for candidate to graduate with Bachelor of Agriculture (Hons) Animal Science, Agronomy, and Agricultural Economics, he/she must have passed a minimum 196 credit units for those commencing at 100 level and 155 credit units for those admitted into 200 level.

Course Unit/Load
The maximum and minimum requirement for graduation in the Departments of Animal Science, Agronomy and Agricultural Economics are stipulated and range from 155 to 196 credit units.
Weighting
In general the weighting of each subject is made up of 30% for continuous assessment and 70% for the two semester examinations. However in exceptional case it could vary from 40/60% depending on the nature of the course.e.g Farm practice.
Graduation Requirement
For the award of degree, a student must have duly matriculated and have:
- Passed all the prescribed courses in the degree programme of study.
- Passed all the prescribed general studies courses
- Earned the required minimum number of course credit units as determined by the department /faculty/senate for the award of degree.
Before a student graduates, the student must fulfill the general requirements of credits in relevant subjects, including English language and Mathematics in not more than two sittings.
